» Description of school environment
The part of town where the school is situated consists of an old village centre and newly established residential and commercial areas. The new residential areas are characterised by a large proportion of social housing. Many families living there come from a minority ethnic background. There are high levels of poverty and deprivation in the area.

Interested pupils of all age groups are involved in the PRINT Project.

The activities are implemented primarily by the social educational workers employed for the PRINT Project and by teachers committed to the Project.

The Project has been running since 2001, and the deadline is 2006.
» Methods and strategies in implementation
| As a part of the activity extracurricular activities such as drama and producing a school magazine are made available to students on a voluntary basis. The activity aims to provide pupils with practical assistance in career development through assistance with writing applications, work experience and training placements. As part of the project there is also the opportunity for pupils to undertake language courses. |

The PRINT programme is sponsored by the Federal State of Niedersachsen.
» Aims of the activity (activities)?
The aim of PRINT is to improve the support provided to disadvantaged and minority ethnic students at Hauptschule and vocational schools through better careers orientation and extracurricular offers at school.
» Reasons for discrimination worked on by the activity:
| The PRINT Project supports pupils who may not at present have equal opportunities to access the job market, or to further training or education opportuntities. |
4. Results
» What has improved as a result of this activity?
Through the use of extracurricular activities and in particular drama/play acting, the self-confidence of the pupils is boosted, and pupils' language skills improve. Using more targeted careers advice orientation, it has been possible to provide pupils with a clearer image of career options, and placements on further training courses of training have been achieved for some pupils.
» Factors which facilitated or hindered the success of the activity
The major factor influencing the Project is the cooperation between the systems of school and youth aid.
