THE SCHOOL PROJECTS

The following is a brief description of the sixteen activities investigated by the CREE project.

 

    DENMARK

Language Workshop
The school put in place a Language Workshop and Homework Club to assist the learning of bilingual pupils.

Intercultural Pedagogy
The idea behind the activity was that by placing - once or twice a week for 2-3 hours - students in homogenous groups based on language and culture the confidence and attainment of these students would improve as a result of their presentations to the whole class.

The Value School
The school involved all members of the school community in determining its values and priorities.

Monitoring School
This project focused on monitoring the amount of bullying present within the school through an anonymous survey of students.

 

    GERMANY

Table Group Method The school places students in groups mixed on the basis of gender and ability. The groups stay together for one year.

Co-operation Project
A joint project involving a primary and special school working together to teach students and to share expertise and good practice.

Project School
A project funded by regional government designed to widen the career opportunities of students by opening up the school to the community and working with local organisations.

A World of Difference
A programme designed to challenge the nature of discrimination and prejudice through activities in the classroom.

 

    SPAIN

Bringing Cultures Together
The parents association organised a range of activities to help bring parents from different backgrounds together and involve them in the work of the school.

Form Period
The school allocated time in lessons for pupils to learn about the nature of discrimination and prejudice.

Conflict Resolution
A scheme to help teach students strategies for resolving and reducing conflict within the school.

Culture Week
The school initiated a project to foster an exchange between parents from different cultural backgrounds.

 

    UNITED KINGDOM

Inclusive Education
This school had a whole school approach to including disabled and special needs pupils within all elements of school life.

Challenging Racism
The school put in a place a project to resolve racial conflict by working with pupils.

Tackling Homophobia
This project involved pupils and teachers discussing the nature of homophobia and learning about the experience of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Gender Stereotyping
The school used a range of activities to encourage female students to pursue non-traditional subjects such as engineering, science and technology.
